Visitors to Panama will tell you that if
there’s one place you should make a point of seeing, it

Bocas del Toro. You’ll get hooked by this
talked about paradise in Panama and you'll see why. Colorful,
romantic, way-out are just a few words to describe it. Gorgeous?
Most certainly. It has everything for the outdoor type: beaches,
ecological forests, and majestic wildlife. And if you’ve heard
of sea turtles, it’s Bocas del Toro that will lay claim to the
fact that it hosts four endangered sea turtles. It has its share
of beaches, naturally, one of the most notable being the North
Shore beaches.

What most people think of THE MAINLAND of Bocas del Toro is Isla Colon which is where Bocas Town is. The islands of Bocas del Toro consists mainly of remote rainforest and of course beautiful beaches. Waterfalls are plentiful, as are meandering rivers, and wildlife - really wild life - include jaguars, pumas, quetzal bird, and harpe eagles.
The mountains give way to more populated coastal lowlands and the Bocas Archipelago, a chain of over 70 islands and keys rimmed by amazingly pristine beaches, sparkling water, colorful coral reefs, and an abundance of tropical fish.

Beaches of Bocas del Toro
There are hundreds of miles of beaches
to choose from at Bocas del Toro. You can find
isolated beaches
where the rainforest comes all the way down to the sea and the
only way to get there is by boat. You'll also find incredible
wildlife.
The most spectacular beach, in most people's estimation, is Red Frog Beach, named for a tiny frog, which is known commonly as the strawberry poison dart frog," but poses no danger to humans, only to predators. These tiny frogs, very numerous at Red Frog Beach, are very cute, as well.
If you have two days to spare, visits are recommended to Swan’s Cay, Boca del Drago, Hospital Point, Crawl Bay, Cayos Zapatillas, Red Frog Beach and Laguna Bocatorito (Friar, 2005). Playa Larga is the place to head for if you want to observe sea turtles. The same can be said of Playa Bluff, which is possibly one of the best beaches in Bocas del Toro. It is accessible by a 25 minute drive from Bocas town. It is deserted during the week but is a favorite of surfers. It can however be a little risky for swimmers.
Boca del Drago is another
beach in Bocas del Toro although the beach is not as
nice as Playa Bluff, but is a safer beach for swimmers or those
who want to splash about.
Whether you're looking for a beach for a long afternoon of lying
on the sand, or a launching spot for snorkeling, diving or
surfing, you can find it at Bocas del Toro.
Diving in Bocas Del Toro
The crystal clear waters of the Caribbean are perfect for diving, and the best beaches for diving in Bocas del Toro are Hospital Point, Coral Key, Dark Wood Reef and Punta Juan Buoy.
Snorkeling
If you're a snorkeler, rather than a diver, check out the Garden near Cayo Nancy, Hospital Point and Punta Juan Bouy.
Surfing
Surfing at Bocas is fabulous at Punch Beach on Isla Colon, and a big reef break, Silverback, on Bastimentos Island, is generating a lot of excitement among surfers.
Where to Stay in Bocas
It's important to understand that when people
say Bocas, they often mean Bocas Town
on
the island called Isla Colon. It is the main island of the
archipelago of Bocas. There are no shortage of resorts and
hotels in Bocas del Toro. How to decide where to stay?
If you're going for low price, try the inexpensive buy highly
regarded Hotel Hipocampo in Bocas Town, with average rates of
$27 per night, far lower than anything you'll find in the US. If
you're interested in something nicer, try the Hotel Bocas del
Toro, reputed to be the best hotel in the area, and with an
average room rate of only $94.
